One hour guided walking tours of Chaffey’s Lock are a fun and active way to experience the area’s rich cultural history. Tours depart just next to the boat houses at Chaffey’s Lock across from the Opinicon parking lot.

Highlights of the tour include:

  1. The Chaffey’s Lockstation (lock gates & mechanisms)
  2. The Chaffey’s Lockmaster’s Museum
  3. The historic Chaffey’s Mill (now an art gallery)
  4. The Marion Dunn Trail
  5. Chaffey’s Lock Cemetery and outdoor chapel
  6. The CNR Iron Bridge now part of the Cataraqui Trail (a 102km section of the Trans Canada Trail system)
  7. Heritage fishing lodges around Chaffey’s

Private Group Walks 

Also available are Private Group Walks that are perfect for clubs, community groups or coach tour groups. These group walks are arranged specifically for you and can be scheduled for any day and time. The guide will share information about the general history of Chaffey’s Lock and the Rideau Canal. You can also choose from these other themes based on the group’s interests:

  1. Building of the Rideau Canal – An engineering marvel completed in 1832
  2. Museums & Historic Sites along the Rideau
  3. Architecture & Culture – The influence of the 5 “builder” nations
  4. Geography & Landscape (Canadian Shield, Frontenac Arch, …)
